Blue Verification Checks Disappear from Twitter Verified Accounts | #DaNews

The once-esteemed blue verification checkmarks on Twitter, branding a tier of elite users as trustworthy, or at least likely themselves, are no more. It's only been a few hours since the inherited blue checks blinked and vanished, but chaos already reigns.

Before the massive unchecking, those with and without Twitter checks were already taking sides on what the new blue checks would signify and what kind of person would be willing to pay for them. But now that they're gone, everything is more confusing than we had anticipated.

Last month, LeBron James stated he wouldn't pay for Twitter's premium service despite his prominence and 50+ million followers. Yet a few hours after the blue checks disappeared en masse, James's check remained visible. Author Stephen King, who previously tangled with Musk on the matter, also retained his blue check and quickly took to Twitter to clarify he hasn't deviated from his decision not to pay.
